Reviews
“Composer-bandleader-keyboardist Bobby Perino has found a tuneful and tasty intersection of rock, jazz, R&B and Latin music in the 15 engaging tracks that make up 'Perino's NoHo7 - Road Trip CD.' His melodies are consistently catchy, the arrangements are smart and executed with considerable verve by his skilled septet. Trumpeter Ron Barrows, saxophonist Sam Morgan and trombonist Kevin Bradley deliver impressive horn solos. Guitarist Ron Hershewe and drummer Steve Pemberton offer equally impressive solos in addition to providing a solid rhythm section foundation along with bassist Larry Muradian and Perino himself on keyboards. Collectively, the band exhibits tight ensemble playing across the album. There are moments that call Santana to mind, others that tap into the horn-driven jazz-rock joys of Chicago and Tower of Power, with an eclectic stylistic palette that sustains interest from beginning to end.”

“The music is joyful, infectious, and danceable, an accessible form of rhythmic pop/jazz. While the musicians have plenty of concise solos, the emphasis is on the spirited ensembles, catchy grooves, and Perino’s arrangements for the septet. There are plenty of subtle surprises to be heard throughout this set. Overall, Road Trip is feel-good music that is expertly played by top-notch musicians. It will certainly put listeners in a happy mood. ”

“Bobby Perino’s NoHo 7 brings us a lot of fun and shows off the talents of these gifted NoHo musicians. From the danceable Kitty Kat Quick Step, to the mellow Cruzin’ PCH, and the more challenging Scale the Mountain, Bobby finds the groove and gives his band room to show off a little. So, I suggest you sit back and enjoy this small group setting with some of LA’s best players. ”
